We have posted the following on behalf of the Friends of Old Sneed Park Nature Reserve. Please do consider getting involved in this worthwhile initiative if you are able:
Our lovely local Old Sneed Park Nature Reserve needs help! The Nature Reserve is part of what was Old Sneed Park Estate, Stoke Bishop. This was the home of Francis Tagart, then George White and later became Nazareth House. The Friends group (FOSPNR) have run the Nature Reserve since 1995. Many are now retiring and new volunteers are needed (not manual labourers). They need people for: – the Newsletter (writers/editor/distribution) – for publicity and fund raising – a Minutes Secretary – also new people to join the Committee to bring fresh ideas. Bristol City Council puts very little into our Nature Reserve. It is thanks to the Friends, however, that the Reserve has extras like the dipping platform, the Millennium path benches, tree and hedge planting and general maintenance. Much of this is funded by successful grant applications. Without continued management by a Friends group we risk an invasion of scrub, lack of maintenance and loss of flowers, no educational activities or information. Our Reserve will lose the unique habitats that make the site so special, as well as its Local Nature Reserve status. DO PLEASE CONSIDER HOW YOU CAN HELP OUR LOVELY LOCAL NATURE RESERVE!
