History Talk on Sneyd Park & Stoke Bishop

As residents of Sneyd Park and Stoke Bishop, have you ever wondered about the history of the amazing location in which we live?

If so, do come to Ian Beattie MBE’s forthcoming talk on 8th June on ‘The Noble History of Sneyd Park and Stoke Bishop from the 16th Century to the Present Day’.

Ian is a former chair of SPRA (1984 to 1994) so is bound to have a wealth of fascinating insights and knowledge to share.

Ian’s talk is in aid of The Rotary Club’s project to provide Raspberry Pi Computers and Training in Coding and its Applications, to Secondary Schools in Lebanon.

Tickets are £5.

It’s on Wednesday 8th June 2022 @ 7.30 pm at St. Mary’s Church, Mariners Drive, Stoke Bishop

Officially designated as a conservation area in 1981, SPRA (Sneyd Park Residents' Association) is a membership organisation established in 1969 and run by a volunteer committee of residents to conserve the character of the Sneyd Park area of Bristol, located on the ancient Sneyd Park estate.

  1. Hello, my elderly mother would like to know more about the history of Sneyd Park. I noticed from the website that there was a talk on 8th June 2022. Was that taped at all? Or can you advise on some resources please? Many thanks

    1. Hi Emma. Apologies for the late response due to work pressures. We often publicise talks being run by other organisations such as the Stoke Bishop History Society here: http://stokebishopvillagehall.co.uk/home/weekly-activities/local-history-group/. You may find it most useful to get in touch with them in the first instance. If there were any recordings, I’m afraid we won’t have access to them as SPRA. You would be very welcome to come along to the SPRA AGM which is taking place tomorrow evening at St Mary’s at 7.30pm. You could find out more about what SPRA does and chat with neighbours and local residents about what they know about the history of the area. I know the Chairman of SPRA, Steve Small, actually grew up here. best wishes

  2. Why is Sneyd Park so named please? There was a family of that name alive during the period 1400-1610 although in the Midlands. I would be grateful to learn if the above family had links to your wonderful community.
